This is an interactive map displaying relevant records held
at in the Archive Service relating to particular locations of
A broadband connection is recommended, otherwise it may
take some time for the maps to load. To use the map, ensure the
'Worcester Archives' box is ticked. Each coloured shape on the map
represents a different geographical place or feature. The Archive
Service's holdings go back several centuries, and some of the
shapes relate to places that no longer exist or have changed use.
To help locate historic features, there is an option to view
'Historical' OS maps from the 1880s. However, these do not cover
much beyond the City of Worcester, due to licensing issues. The
other types of map and aerial photos do cover the entire
Clicking on a shape opens a box containing place name
information and a link to the relevant entry in the online
catalogue. This will provide information about the type, extent and
dates of documents the Archive Service holds relating to that
place. The original documents can be viewed at the Archive Service.
There are currently over 200 features that are linked to the online
catalogue. The majority are within Worcester City but it is being
expanded to cover the rest of the county. This is an ongoing
project and not all the Archive Service's collections are in either
the GIS map or the online catalogue.
