We invite your class to apply for the positions of Boot Boys and Scullery Maids.  Our Housemaid will set them to work using authentic equipment. Appropriate costume can be provided.

Classroom at War and Make Do and Mend

Classroom at War

Your pupils can experience a school lesson from the point of view of a Wartime evacuee or spend some time in the Scullery learning about a child's daily life in Wartime including rationing and 'making do'.

A hands-on activity looking at the similarities and differences between toys today and toys in the past. To reinforce concepts of “old” and “new” and to provide a wide range of opportunities for children to develop their speaking and listening skills.

Roleplay Plus Sessions

Enhance your visit to Hartlebury by choosing to add on to your chosen role play one of our great, new, creative and interactive sessions for schools. All sessions are led by a member of Hartlebury's Education Team and materials are provided. Each session lasts 1.5 hours and includes object handling, historical investigation and enquiry and the opportunity to be creative and make an item to take back to school for your Class Museum display. Only £25 per session (session accommodates up to 30 pupils)

Victorian Themes - (to add to Victorian Roleplay sessions)

  • Fun and Games - Victorian playtime and parlour games (to be booked with the Below stairs role play session only). A selection of indoor and outdoor toys to try.
  • Corsets and Crinolines - A fun look at Victorian Costume - and try some on too!

Second World War Themes - (to add to Classroom at War or Make do and Mend Roleplay sessions)

  • Salvage Squaddies! - Become a Hartlebury Salvager. Recycling is not a new idea! Find out how it was done and why during the Second World War and think about the importance of "Salvage" today!

All services are available to schools from Tuesday to Friday inclusive.  The Museum is closed on Mondays (except for Bank Holidays.)
