Magnificent MOTHS

28th November 2013 - 23rd February 2014

Magnificent MOTHS (Museums on the High Street) is a spectacular event which will enthral and captivate audiences through a series of High Street and museum performances.

Follow the story of Winnie Bird as she hunts for the Worcesterious Giganticus in the hopes of adding them to her collection.

Stewards Chemist Shop

Worcester has had many chemist shops, but only this one has been dismantles piece by piece and moved to the Museum!
On the first TUESDAY of each months, 11.00am - 3.00pm the doors will be open for you to take a peek inside and hear the fascinating story of how it came from the High Street.

LOVE WORCESTER : The City in Miniature

  • February Half Term 2014 - Saturday 15th - Saturday 22nd February 10.30am - 4.30pm
  • FREE Family drop-in activities

Help us celebrate the wonderful mix of old and new buildings in Worcester City.  Build a miniature 3D city-scape using modelling and scraptastic materials.  Create a thatched timber-framed building, a tissue paper river or even the glistening Hive, the possibiltiies are endless!

Curator Talks

First TUESDAY of each month at 3.00pm, March - July

Join a curator on the first Tuesday of each month to hear more about objects in the collection that relate to the fabulous exhibitions 'Song of the Sea' and Skylight Landscape'.  Just £2 per person, 30 minute talk, no booking required.

The Magnificent MOTHS Parade

Saturday 22nd February, performances from 12noon
Parade starts at 2pm from the Guildhall

Brought to you by Museums Worcestershire and Imagineer Productions as part of LOVE Worcester, the Magnificent MOTHS Parade will take to the streets of Worcester City Centre.  A day of magical and surprising performances and events inspired by Museums Worcestershire's collections, buildings and exhibitions, the parade welcomes back Victorian explorer and collector Winnie Bird and her Magnificent Giant Moths.

Make a miniature Iron Age World

Monday 14th April, 11.00am - 1.00pm, suitable for 5 - 12 year olds

Take inspiration from our fantastic new exhibition Barbarians; The Age of Iron and build your very own Iron Age settlement.  Model with clay, craft materials, straw and moss to build a round house and ancient farmhouse scene.  Include all your favourite animals, household furniture and cooking pots.  Let your imagination create a magical ancient world to take home.  Spaces are limited so booking is essential.

Iron Age Accessories and Barbarian Costume

Tuesday 22nd April, 11.00am - 1.00pm, suitable for 5 - 12 year olds

Join us to create a stunning Iron Age costume.  Choose from a jewel studded brooch, warrier shield or spear and decorate your own Little Barbarian tunic.
Spaces are limited, so booking is essential

Monster Maker Makeover

Saturday 24th May, 11.00am - 1.00pm, suitable for all the family

Cost: Special family rates available - please ask for details

Give your little monster the spikes and fangs they truly deserve in our Monster Maker Makeover, transform an old T-shirt or sweatshirt into an outfit suited to even the cheekiest monster, with stegasaurus spines, dragon wings and shiny scales, grown up monsters are welcome, but must be supervised by a child......

Spaces for workshops are limited, so booking is essential.

The Activity Space

Based in the heart of the Museum and Art Gallery, the Children’s Activity Space is a lovely bright and welcoming place for all the family. Use the materials provided to create your own masterpiece and just sit and watch the children have fun! The Activity Space is available for hire at certain times, for more information please contact the Visitor Services Manager on 01905 25371.
