Stewards Chemist Shop

Worcester has had many chemist shops, but only this one has been dismantles piece by piece and moved to the Museum!
On the first TUESDAY of each months, 11.00am - 3.00pm the doors will be open for you to take a peek inside and hear the fascinating story of how it came from the High Street.

Curator Talks

First TUESDAY of each month at 3.00pm, March - July

Join a curator on the first Tuesday of each month to hear more about objects in the collection that relate to the fabulous exhibitions 'Song of the Sea' and Skylight Landscape'.  Just £2 per person, 30 minute talk, no booking required.

Monster Maker Makeover

Saturday 24th May 2014, 11.00am - 1.00pm, suitable for all the family

Cost: Special family rates available - please ask for details

Give your little monster the spikes and fangs they truly deserve in our Monster Maker Makeover, transform an old T-shirt or sweatshirt into an outfit suited to even the cheekiest monster, with stegasaurus spines, dragon wings and shiny scales, grown up monsters are welcome, but must be supervised by a child......

Bicycle Basket Bazaar

Saturday 21st June 2014 10.30am to 4.30pm

The Worcester Flea is bringing the 'world famous Bicycle Basket Bazaar' to the Art Gallery and Museum, by kind permission from the Ministry of Bicycles.  It's a vintage, art and craft fair supporting local, independent traders with a difference: traders will be selling their wares from bicycles. 

Native American Myths, Story-telling and Poetry Workshop

Saturday 21st June 2014 11.00am to 1.30pm, suitable for families and adults 

Cost: FREE

Join author and poet Ruth Stacey to explore our wonderful collection of artefacts from North America. Ruth will share her deep knowledge and enthusiasm for the Native American culture, exploring the fascinating relationship between the people and animal kingdom. For the Native Americans story telling was, and still is, an important way to pass wisdom down to the next generation. To make the information memorable the stories are filled with heroes, villains, comedy, drama and animals (often trickster characters who upset the rules and bring chaos into situations!)

Ruth will encourage you to shape your response in to poetry, short stories or observation drawing.  Spaces are limited, so booking is essential

Mini Vintage Tea Party

12th July 2014 2.00pm - 4.00pm

To celebrate the opening of Fancy Pants: A  celebration of Style 1920-45, you are invited to a mini vintage tea party where you can decorate fairy cakes and make a felt brooch to take away. Dress code: party frocks / best bib and tucker.  No booking required, cost £1 for materials

Dress the Dragon 

14th July to 22nd August 2014

Cost: FREE Entry

Throughout the summer pop in to Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum to meet and decorate our friendly fiery dragon. His scales and magnificent  tail need to be dressed and decorated with lots of colour and sparkle!  Dress up in our wonder world costumes, and have fun with our life size knight and princess cut outs! Draw the dragon or mythical pictures for our gallery board!  Free, drop-in throughout the holidays.

Sensational Clay Day

Saturday 19th July 201411.00am – 4.00pm, suitable for children and adults

Cost: £15.00 for children and £20.00 for adults (includes lunch)

Join potter Jon Williams for a fun day with clay.  Jon will share his knowledge and skills with you helping you create beautiful clay objects with your hands and the help of a potters wheel.  John is a qualified Arts Award assessor (bronze and silver) so this will be the ideal opportunity to add to your portfolio.

A lunch will be included, made especially by the Balcony Cafe team.  This will also be an opportunity to explore 'Sensation Clay' the fun and thought provoking exhibition of ceramics made by Jon himself.  Spaces are limited so booking essential.

Miniature world of Castles and Costume

Thursday 31st July 2014 11.00am – 1.00pm, suitable for 5 – 12 year olds

Come along and create a magical castle from scraptastic material and clay.  Build towers, turrets and castellations and populate with peg people dressed in flowing gowns, sparkling crowns or fighting armour.  Spaces are limited, so booking is essential. 

Cost £4.50 per child

Be-dazzled by Beads

Monday 4th August 2014 11.00am – 1.00pm, suitable for 7 – 12 year olds

Taking inspiration from our beautiful vintage costume exhibition, join our bead expert to make your own gorgeous jewels and accessories.  Choose from a wonderful selection of colours, textures, shapes and sizes and transform these little gems into a necklace, bracelet, brooch, wristband or anklet.  Bring old jewellery if you wish to add to a special new design.

Spaces are limited, so booking is essential.  Cost £4.50 per child.

Create a costume for Catwalk Fame (+ invitation to the vintage fashion show)

Saturday 9th August 2014 11.00am – 1.00pm, suitable for boys and girls and a families

Work with visual artist Sian Hughes to create your very own Roaring Twenties Flapper costume.  The Flapper fashion embraced all things modern and cutting edge, including fringed  costume and stylish head-dress.   Perfect for you to model on the catwalk before the opening of our vintage fashion show.  Spaces are limited, so booking is essential. 

£4.50 child/£6.50 adult special family rate £17.00.

1940's Wartime Fashion Show

Two shows throughout the day 1.00pm and 3.00pm – FREE entry

The curators of Fancy Pants; A Celebration of Style 1920-1945 present a catwalk show of 1940s wartime style.  Featuring original WWII era garments, from fashion on a ration to a touch of glamour, it takes a look at what they wore to win the war.  No booking required

Monster Modelling

Tuesday 12th August 11.00am – 1.00pm, suitable for 5 – 12 years

Join us to make mini monster worlds from clay and collage materials.  Shape, roll, cut and carve to make a magical creation to take home

Spaces are limited, so booking is essential.  Cost £4.50 per child

Learn to Dance – Lindy Hop (Swing Jive)

16th August and 30th August 2014 Sessions start 11.00am, 1.00pm and 3.00pm

Join Ross Jive and Swing and learn how to Lindy Hop in one of their fun taster sessions.  Sessions last approximately 45 minutes and you'll become a professional in no time!

Cost: £5 for one session or £7.00 for two on the same day – Tickets available in advance from the Art Gallery.

The Best Dressed Skeleton!

Wednesday 20th August 2014 11.00am – 1.00pm, suitable for 5 – 12 year olds (parents, grandparents and carers most welcome)

Make a life sized, jointed skeleton and dress the bones with Vintage style.  Create a top hat or floppy hat, beaded necklace, a fob watch and button hole to make your Mr Bones the best dressed in town.  Spaces are limited so booking is essential.  Cost £4.50 per child

The Activity Space

Based in the heart of the Museum and Art Gallery, the Children’s Activity Space is a lovely bright and welcoming place for all the family. Use the materials provided to create your own masterpiece and just sit and watch the children have fun! The Activity Space is available for hire at certain times, for more information please contact the Visitor Services Manager on 01905 25371.
